    The plant kingdom can be divided into two distinct groups, agricultural and non-agricultural; each competes with the other for a scarcity of carbon dioxide.
    It is said that if the percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere could be increased, the agricultural output of the world would increase correspondingly. The removal of 14 million trees will work towards that end.
    I doubt that the Scottish legislators had this in mind, or would even acknowledge it, for it doesn't fit their overall agenda; but it is a rare positive unintended consequence of legislative interventionism.
