Exports are for most part private company’s so profits don’t pay the country’s bills taxes do. Exports for 16-17 were around 336.3 billon $ the tax receipts I believe were in excess of 488 billion Same year so even if exports paid 50% of revenue in tax it would still not be half of the Australian tax take.
One should remember it’s taxes that pays the country’s bills and a quick google will show PAYG tax is a large part of that as is GST. We can all make any thing fit any naritive. At the end of the day taxes pay for roads hospitals ect but exports are not the biggest producer of them. Don’t get me wrong being West Australian and having worked for decades in the resources sector I know how important it is but this came about from some one saying something I think was overeating the sector or at lest underrating the other sectors.
