I think this is the reason they are doing another 60nm run, to produce additional data to feed into their plan for the scale down into 20nm. At the AGM Ting said that this what happens in Silicon Valley. Everyone consolidates the most recent success prior to making the next development leap forward.
It makes sense to me. It’s about trying to derisk the 20nm run as much as possible.
