However, it took up until a few months ago to achieve the stated aim of a megabit chip, as various technical issues surfaced throughout the development process. It's going to take longer than those few months for companies to sit up and take notice, do their feasibility studies and decide whether/what they should bid.

A 20 nm Megabit platform at IMEC is now available - it would be madness not to take development there while we are waiting - we're talking about the opportunity to really blow DRAM out of the water at that node size, for the matter of a few hundred K in development costs. The cost to return ratio on a successful 20 nm chip is huge IMO.

To have IMEC agree to prioritise that next step is a great advertisement to potential acquirers in of itself.

The company can't sit on its hands in the meantime - the opportunity exists to step up the development of the tech significantly - they have to go for it. The best thing is they are fully funded and then some for this work.
