Cougar Energy Limited (ASX: CXY) advises that it has today filed a Notice of Appeal in the Queensland Planning and Environment Court appealing the decision by the Queensland Government’s Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) in July 2011 to close down the Company’s Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) project at Kingaroy through an amendment to the Company’s Environmental Authority (operating permit).
The Company’s Notice sets out significant grounds for appeal against DERM’s decision. The next step will be to seek directions from the Court as to the timetable for the conduct of the appeal.
Separately, the Company also advises that the Complaint and Summons filed by DERM alleging breaches of the Queensland Environmental Protection Act 1994 against the Company has been adjourned until 15 December 2011.
