In my view (and I stress my view) ...
Linc ... syngas to diesel ... trial burn in progress but no reports to date ... the most technically challenging current ucg projects ... significant capex (possibly in excess of $1bill)to get to planned production levels ... no significant production until 2011 or 2013 from memory.
Metex ... syngas to fertiliser ... trial burn due to start some tome soon ... good funding security in a deal with Incitec ... probably an intermediate technical technical challenge and likewise for capex ... likely 2 to 3 years or more away from any production.
Cougar ... syngas to turbine generated elctricity ... trial burn due to start soon .... a funding deal hopefully to be announced soon ... the least technically challenging of the current ucg projects ... requires modest capex of something like $55mil to complete a 40MW cash flow positive Stage 1 developmment at Kingaroy ... could possibly be up and running within 2 to 2.5 yrs.
So, my take is that whilst Cougar may have missed the starters gun, it could very well bolt to the finish line with the first delivered commercially successful ucg project ... and from that leverage up to the full range of ucg possibilities and possibly in several countries.
Cheers
