I am not worried…IMO as an investor I think that it is prudent to look at other providers…or more specifically in this case hopeful up and comers, trying to get a look in (4DX).
However in the health care system there is a low switching incentive.
For example: Most hospitals will provide paracetamol to any patients coming through the door for any type of pain…now, ibuprofen is superior for pain managment in many ways, however they do not just switch, they will always give paracetamol as a first line and ibuprofen only where it is specifically required…It's not because paracetamol is better, but because it's the safer, well-known, low-risk option which is embedded into workflows, protocols, and supply chains.
Changing that default, even slightly would require retraining, new approvals, reworking electronic order sets, legal implications and more. They are a slow moving beast…they don’t quickly/easily change, spending huge dollars retraining staff, overhauling workflows, covering insurance and litigation and established procedures on a whim.
Clinical adoption hinges on overwhelming evidence (peer reviewed - over a large field) that 4DX’s functional imaging provides significantly better outcomes than current options.
IMHO, 4DX has an uphill battle, and a lot of work to do. In many other industries providing a cheaper service or a better outcome is an easy switch but 4DX’s industry of choice is more challenging.
The burden is on 4DX to effectively prove their product superior in all ways and SELL IT to the industry that already has a working and proven procedure, all while being in a financially weak position, an untested/unproven provider (logistically, in a large US market), and appearing as a plucky and ambitious youngster…
Old heads and established, overcautious, snail-like procedures in medicine make this a very difficult path.
Innovation is often fast…adoption though, is slow…
Don’t get me wrong, they may get there in the end, and if they do, I may invest. But at this stage CYC is the more trustworthy and established, proven provider in the eyes of those signing the big contracts, until that changes - which will be a very slow and noticeable shift - neither would I.
I could also mention, if you want to ask my opinions on other shares, probably don’t ask on a forum for CYC. Otherwise people might mistakenly think you were trying to seed doubt, cause trouble and upset holders of this stock while highlighting/promoting an alternative stock…
