Someone posted a link to Cape Flattery anemometer which shows no increase in wind gusts for two hours: still 122 kph. This leads me to believe that Ita is losing strength.

There is a massive difference in destructive power between 200 kph and 300 kph winds. I don't know what we got here in Yasi, but there was almost no structural damage, just wrong trees planted in the wrong places doing damage when they toppled.

After Althea, JCU undertook a big study using wind tunnels on structures and everything built since '85 had to meet tough specs. Time they repeated the exercise with trees, but that won't happen. They are like everyone else in HE, their head is up their own fundamental orifice and can't see past AGW.

Sorry about the rant: I feel better now. :) But I see this being much more manageable than BOM would have us believe. I certainly hope so, as an Althea survivor.
