    Things are seldom as bad as the TV tells us.

    Sugar cane is a grass and will continue to grow and thrive even it is laying over. Just slower to harvest. The loss occurs if the cane is snapped and the pictures shown don't indicate that.

    Bananas are a high profit, high risk crop where a year's loss of income should always be factored into your biz plan and they will be back within a year. Same as wheat growers. If they have two good years with both summer and winter crops doing well, they will have made a mottza.

    Innisfail is an "old" town and will be rebuilt much stronger as Townsville was after Althia and Darwin after Tracey. Both these cities are now much stronger than they were.

    Not down playing the disaster, merely pointing to the silver lining.
