I live in Cairns and yes building insurance have increased substantially since the floods in Brisbane and the dam debacle in 2011? 12
From about 12k a year to 80k a year now
Self insuring was mentioned to the body corporate committee and managers but has not gained traction yet
The building is strong
Reinforced concrete block and a cyclone would never blow it down
2 stories high
Cairns has never had a direct hit for 100 years as far as I know
Compulsory insurance is a pain in the arse
