    Hi Folks

From 24 January but VERY interesting re the Czech Prime Minister Topolanek stating that, although not directly mentioned, it now opens up the nuclear debate..

Hmmm. 'If' this happens Uran will clean up.

Whats interesting to me is how the nuclear debate is aligning itself to the greens.
What will pan out on a macro level will have an enormous positive impact on those companies that are in the process of acquiring/producing uranium projects.

Clearly the whole band of technologies need to get put into sub groups re degrees of 'green'

I am always surprised to hear some of those promotoing the green debate who live in the environmental filth that is air quality in major cities due to fossil fuels yet seem to think Nuclear is not green?????

EU: Czechs should double 'green energy' share by 2020

Brussels, Jan 23 (CTK) - The Czech Republic should more than double the share of renewable sources in its overall energy consumption, from the current 6 percent to 13 percent in 2020, it ensues from a draft package of measures the European Commission (EC) released today.

The measures are to help the EU achieve the ambitious goals it pledged to reach within the fight against climate change.

The package is yet to be approved by EU member countries and the European Parliament.

The Czech Republic is satisfied with this part of the package.

"It practically confirms the proposal of the Czech government," Environment Minister Martin Bursik told CTK.

Under the draft, Slovakia is supposed to raise its share of renewable energy sources from 6.7 percent to 14 percent by 2020.

The EU pledged at its summit last March to raise the share of renewable sources to 20 percent by the end of the next decade and to secure at least a 10 percent share of biofuel in the overall fuel consumption.

The latest available and verified figures on renewable sources date back to 2005 when these sources' share stood at 8.5 percent in the EU.

This means 11.5 percent had to be divided among particular states in order to attain the 20 percent goal by 2020. In doing so, the EC took the member countries' starting positions and their relative wealth into account.

Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek said the result is satisfactory and that Czech representatives have succeeded in negotiating a quota that roughly corresponds to the demanded level.

The Czech government said in November that it could raise the Czech share to 8.6 percent.

Topolanek said on Radio Cesko the Czech Republic will largely increase the growing of biomass because its water energy potential has been exhausted and wind energy generation is problematic.

He said the current debate reopens the issue of the future of nuclear energy generation even though the commission did not mention it.

Petr Holub, from the Friends of the Earth environmental organisation, said Czech companies can not only fulfil the proposed figures but "we will even push our economy forward. It would be a great damage to waste this opportunity to set green industry, innovations and investment in modern technologies in motion."

"Our dependence on imports of fuels will decrease and we will be better protected against energy price fluctuations on the world market," Holub said.
