Another extension imminent.
I wonder how long Miracle Iron will continue to pay for Robe costs before getting cold feet?
Is 12 months or 10 months the cutoff date? How long are they happy to wait for approval?
Miracle is in deep with hefty costs it has had to pay during the delay as the agreement was that they pay for all costs of Robe up to finalisation of the sales process. Since they continue to pay for Robe costs and development is ongoing while the sales process is delayed, id expect them to be rather patient.
Would they be able to progress things any faster if they had the mine in their name today? They can sit and accumulate interest on their $102M for now. Thats the upside prospectus. On the contrary, they may cut their losses and move on because of 101 reasons.
FIRB rejection would be a complete 180 to the rosy relations just had between Chalmers and his counterpart in China. Want the lobster ban lifted? Maybe approve this transaction? Approval could come with conditions that any development work/s to be done with Australian citizenry only. That would be a rather fair condition that I would expect the chief of Miracle (who is a AU citizen) to oblige to gleefully.
FIRB would be aware of the ramifications of a rejection so may drag out the process hoping it goes away on its own. But as already known, good relations are wanted by both sides. China is more integral to the wellbeing of AU than is any other western country. Donalds proposed tariffs on China would try to drag AU into that mess much to the disgust of all but a few who live here. Much of the standard of living we have in this country is thanks to our trade relations with China. What does US do for us? Use us as a military base for their own agenda? If we were to object to them, they would park an aircraft carrier off the coast of Melbourne and then what can we do?
Risk is getting dragged in a trade fight with China much as we have with Russia, which is for nil benefit so far. Probable sequence of events would be wait for finalization of US elections, if Donald wins, see what he does with his promised China tariffs? Do we have the wherewithal to object the trade war lunacy that the US would be eager to drag us and all its other vassals, I mean 'allies' into? FIRB approval/rejection could hinge on that to some degree. Notice how FIRB approvals for western aligned nations come much quicker.
