where there is money there is greed and dishonesty. whether it's management, brokers, an opinion in the paper etc. you will never know someone's motive unless you can see their holdings, or secret trust or company. all you can rely on is gathering as much information as possible and making an informed decision and just hope that you have more genuine information that fake news

"they will get it wrong more often than not if they are a retail investor. " If that is correct than one way to do better than the market is to be a contrary investor (which is a legit. strategy)
