I think publicly listed companies have continuous disclosure obligations for 'material' matters, don't they? And a tenement grant / denial for a prospective mining area would come under that umbrella.
So, as soon as they know one way or the other, they're obligated to tell shareholders, probably within a 'reasonable period of time' or some such.
Corporate sleuths may want to chip in?
