I was just reading that article also! It appears that this drug is a monoclonal antibody therapy and that the patient died of cytokine release syndrome. That is one of the main issues facing CAR-T therapies but one that this drug also faces - overactivation of the immune system.
This is what makes small molecule drugs like PTX-100 highly favourable. It doesn't mess with the highly sensitive immune system... but work to block cancer growth in its tracks from within the cells. Immunotherapy has a ways to go yet.
