This is perhaps the best possible opening comment that could have been made, since it includes all of the important terminology: brain, mind, and conscious (consciousness).

I have added some previous notes of mine about the brain and a new section about where thoughts come from:

Where does a thought come from? I expect that the brain is the physical manifestation of the mind, and not the mind itself (in its entirety). The brain may be an antenna receiving information of a particular frequency. The transmitter (transmission) and the receiver together form the mind. If there are different types of beings in this realm, each type of being may receive a signal from a different source. For example, real people may receive a signal directly from nature or from a source originating outside of this realm, such as the universe. Non-player characters might receive a signal originating from a local source, a frequency with a stronger or shorter wave length - this could be considered a download. Such a download explains why so many people parrot government propaganda without the ability to think for themselves.

Where does consciousness come from? Perhaps the mind is entirely physical and the cerebral cortex is responsible for thought and consciousness. Or it could be that the brain is partly an antenna and partly responsible for decoding information within the frequency to which it is tuned. The cerebral cortex is a dense layer of neuronal cell bodies that lines the outer surface of the cerebral hemispheres. It is about 2 to 4 mm thick and contains an aggregation of nerve cell bodies. This layer is thrown into complex folds, with elevations called gyri and grooves known as sulci. The arrangement of these folds differs from human to human, and is believed to account for the differing cognitive abilities of individual humans. It is as if the cerebral cortex is attempting to contain 'the animal within' by covering the mammalian (animal) parts of the brain. Unfortunately, most humans appear unable or unwilling to move their thoughts out of the mammalian brain and into the higher parts of the brain (the neocortex).

In spiritualism (including new age spiritualism), the phrase "the answer lies within" has special significance. I suspect almost everyone has heard this phrase - it may be (artificially) carried through time. The phrase may be carried through time as both a truth drop and a tainted breadcrumb. When it comes to the universe, the answer does lie within each one of us (consciousness). Note that the Bible states that God is within each human (but the misleading allusion is that God is in the heart or the soul or the spirit - and that God is an old man with a white beard living in the clouds - but the truth is that God is nature and living in line with nature starts in the mind. See: God). However, the answer does not lie within when one is talking about the brain. When it comes to the brain, the answer lies not within the brain (as in, the central parts) but in the cerebral cortex - the surrounding layers of brain matter (which are the physical manifestation of consciousness).

The phrase “Put on your thinking cap” is a phrase that has been carried through time. When a teacher or someone says, "Put on your thinking cap(s)", it may be that they are unwittingly referring to the cerebral cortex, which is like a hat capping and surrounding the central parts of the brain.
