They could just offer slightly different products and let time sort out which is the better product and then merge the two down the track.
Perhaps even keep them separate the whole time. Similar to Facebook acquiring Instagram. Those two social media platforms are basically the same thing, but yet they both offer enough differences to remain relevant to the majority whilst also branching out to create their own niche markets.
I think there is enough room in the US market for one company to own two platforms and keep them both at maximum profitability if they can carve out different public perceptions of the two.
