shorting is not illegal nor is shareholders lending their stock for shorting - the market is free in the way that people are allowed to take a bullish or bear position for whatever reasons they like - should the executives comment on the short interest and re-assure investments probably, will they do this; probably not.
just a part of holding zip and you have to stomach it or sell which is entirely your choice.
