They aren't allowed to use the name afterpay but they tried to change it and couldn't. The name change for zip was worth it, not an ego move but a consolidated move to show the size and strength of zip under one name rather than 12 different names for each country. They are spending the money on marketing now but but this will decrease over time. They can now target global merchants and have a payment ecosystem set up for amazon, Microsoft or whoever in all of their operating countries instantly.
