layaway / laybuy / the original pay a deposit to hold the item at a specific price and pay it off over x months. Now that all shifts to BNPL - which traditionally was anywhere from 3-12 months to help budget esp for Christmas. it wasn't credit as you only got the goods once you fully paid for them.
