After the GFC there was a new credit card act, meaning anyone under 21 in America needs to have a fulltime job or co-signer to get a credit card. Not everyone can get a credit card. That's why Sezzle was first in providing a credit reporting facility that everyone else has now copied and offering to build credit scores in the US.
In America, building credit is important if you ever want to buy a house or get approved for a loan. BNPL gives 18-21 year old peeps without a FT job or a co-signer a chance to build credit 3 years earlier in life.
And plenty of people over 21 still love the convenience of BNPL don't want high interest credit cards. There are a lot of people who like the installments and don't care about $4 on the total purchase. A coffee costs more than that and people drink multiple coffees a day. Not everyone is a tight Scrooge.
