The RBA data on retail payments makes a better comparison... In the month of Nov 21, there were 1062 million card purchases on Australian issued cards, of which there were 59.8 million cards on issue. That's just under 18 payments per card in the month. In the split between credit and debit cards, credit/charge cards were used 15 times per card on issue in the month, while debit cards were used just under 19 times in the month. You can interpret this as good or bad for BNPL... good in that there is a lot of upside potential to displace traditional consumer finance, or bad in that despite the hype, BNPL is relatively niche.
