The only issue is that they've probably waited too long.
For some perspective. CBA's yearly revenue from personal use credit cards is around $500 million. That's Zip's adjusted revenue for this year basically (including US).
Afterpay revenue is beating all big banks credit card revenue.
The question is, would most banks bother to use their capital to enter BNPL, or would they prefer to use it to invest in already established BNPL businesses. Keeping in mind their income from credit cards is hardly anything compared to their other ventures.
At the moment CBA doesn't have a clue what it wants to do other than take no risk at all by hedging it's bets by starting it's own BNPL and also keeping it's 5% stake in Klarna. It's on the fence basically.
