the point, that i made on twitter, is that swami is conflating washed sand and high grade silica sand. industrial sands, mostly used in fracking and construction in the US, is tied to the gas market which is pretty volatile and reports on usage are reflecting the "oil glut" last year and forward orders in that industry. numbers have recovered since that report.... however it doesn't matter. because we aren't selling fracking sand.
while i actually like swami, and the work he does, this one isn't well researched or understood on his behalf. the conflation of sands is an oversight, and the attempt to lump in the medical scare of silica lung cancer is a stretch as it occurs from repeated exposure to the dust, from the cutting of compressed and baked forms.... i.e bricks, tiles and concrete.
