    The price of sand varies depending on the grade. Muchea for example has significant super high grade sand that is suitable for semi conductors. At last look some year or two ago that was going for us$1500 per tonne. Then there is the elcheapo sand for concrete at the price you mentioned or lower.
    As for contamination. No not discussed or mentioned anywhere and I doubt that is the case. Do you have any evidence to your claim?
