I agree and disagree with this. While you are right at that point in time, it reduces your potential earnings. Arguably however if you don't have cash your future earnings also may not exist.
In terms of free shares to directors, I think there is a diminishing value in providing them. At first, it aligns interests, but as they get more for free it tends to incentivise a quick sale of the company, especially where they convert options on the sale.
