My hope is that there will be enough shareholder dissatisfaction to push for a more multi-faceted approach (if you'll pardon the pun). Years ago, it was remarked that De Beers needed to decide whether it was a mining company or a marketing company. As Al Cook has recently demonstrated, survival requires being both. BDM needs to adopt a similar strategy. While the current CEO, Board, and senior management team may excel in mining operations, they lack the expertise necessary in the equally crucial realm of marketing.
