"that is very good news. Doesn't say how thick the sand was, but an influx indicates good potential flow rates from it. They need to run the extra casing to protect the reservoir they have just hit. To continue drilling with it not cased would lead to influx of drilling fluids into the nearby sandstone potentially decreasing porosity. Casing it is the smart move, and the pressure and samples they get from the logs will give them a very good idea of how good the reservoir is. To stop drilling so as to run a full suite of logs and extra casing is very positive."
