    "Basically they have had to increase the mud weight to control the influx. this means that when the drilled out the previous casing shoe they performed a test to see what pressure the bottom of the casing they have set could stand before it created problems for them.

    What has happened is that the "kick" they have taken has put that casing shoe at risk and so they need to set the casing early and not at planned depth, otherwise the worst that could happen would be that they lost the well due to the kick. They need sufficient strength at the shoe, formation strength in order to increase the mud weight without "breaking down" the shoe, normal oil field practice.

    I would be very suprised if they did not have liner available for this contingency and that they would use the casing on the rig and then get more casing/liner to set at TD."
