Richard Burton (the 19th century English explorer/ diplomat/ adventurer, not the 20th century actor) first achieved notoriety with a report on a similar theme in Sind (or as we would now say, Pakistan), in the 1860's.
Sexual exploitation of boys from impoverished families has a long history in the region, and isn't about to vanish in a hurry.
