Fairfax Ipsos poll - more than one in five Victorians will cast primary vote for The Greens
Today's Fairfax Ipsos poll has one amazing, frightening, downright unbelievable result.
21% of Victorians polled say their primary vote will go to The Greens.
Look around you Victorians - every fifth car, Greens voter. One in five restaurant tables, passengers on the train, people at the footy or The Cup.
They must have stopped teaching sums at Victorian schools a while ago - how could so many people be so innumerate or unconcerned with finances as to favour The Greens way-to-spend?
There's no doubt our community is sliding to the left. We've become more concerned with seeming, feeling, Tweeting etc rather than doing. We're more likely to excuse really bad behaviour than to demand higher standards from everyone. All of those traits are part of The Greens DNA.
There's one big sting in Victoria's slide into the open arms of The Greens and that's in law and order.
21% of every jury empanelled in Victoria will view the matters in issue through The Greens responsibility-occluding victimhood prism!!!! That's a very big change to the way a jury 20 years ago would have looked at the facts.
It's good news for marginalised Muslims, public-housing-tenants, LGBTI victims, refugee victims, misogyny-victim former political fraudsters and every Get Out of Jail Free excuse-card-holder thinking about breaking the law in a big way for the greater good of The Cause.
When I was a copper the zeitgeist among all but the Traffic Operations Group (or Highway Patrol) was to treat traffic offenders as potential jurors. Never give someone a reason to turn against the police and authority. I will never forget how it felt when 4 shitheads charged over the ambush and shooting of young policemen Steve Tynan and Damien Eyre were found not guilty by a jury. They got away with murder and that result is still celebrated and studied amongst many of the state's crooks.
Coppers are up against it in getting authority to charge offenders now. Poor old Ross Mitchell from the fraud squad raided Gillard's office in May 2013 and he still hasn't had a brief and charges approved. And if he does get through that hurdle the prosecuting decisions are made by government appointed DPP lawyers - who aren't afraid to pull a brief. Now add 21% Greens thinking when the evidence from his investigation that's survived the trade-off, sieving and whittling down process is assessed in the jury room.
"Let's go around the table and see where everyone is at - Raphael?"
"Not guilty".
"Why?"
"She just is alright! Look at her."
The Australian's Paul Kelly wrote about the trend in Western democracies moving inexorably to the Left. Conservatives have largely left the field in Academia, journalism, public broadcasting, the arts, the law and other institutions. Kids growing up now only get the lefty perspective and it's showing up in these shocking numbers of Greens adherents in Victoria.
A mate of mine was talking to a group of a dozen or so young women at a work function the other day. They were all in their early to mid-twenties, university educated, professionals in the media industry. They'd all identity as savvy, aware, up with the play, independent and capable.
The conversation turned to asylum seekers and refugees. After the usual Twitter-style slogan recitations (which now replaces reasoned argument) he posed this question, "So if Australia was being invaded by some foreign power, what would you do? Would you and your family stay and fight to defend your country and our way of life or would you up and leave?"
100%, no hesitation said they'd leave rather than fight. In fact the thought, the idea of fighting for something was met with revulsion.
Welcome to Australia's future.
Australia can't afford an unbalanced free fall to the left. We need strong conservative voices to stay and be heard - if for nothing else than to counter balance The Left. Speak out, talk to impressionable mates, get the facts and never give up. Never, never never give up!
