Not true. With out a 50%CGT discount up to $80k you pay 30%, over but up to $180, 37% and above, 45%.
The CGT relief is obviously ideal but if you fell in the middle bracket then 37% tax isn't devastating lol. ATO never gets half and if you qualify for CGT Rule then the appropriate bracket in effect is halved.
I mention this because a lot think holding without the CGT rule is not economically viable, so not true. We're not in the middle ages where income over $50k attracted over 40%.
