All the more reason to make sure you aren't in a company "just for the resource".
Many factors need to be considered when investing. If management are weak enough to sell at an early stage of a project, they are giving the big gains to the buyer. You need to focus on management that really are comitted to the cause. How you find them I don't know, but some seem more fragile than others so narrow them down and hone in on the ones that stand out.
