I agree the quarantine security was a stuff up but that should not have resulted in these kind of numbers had people been careful. We were not out of the woods but depending on who you listened to the belief was that the Andrews government was stifling business and the economy by not opening up and the risk from covid was small. Now when things start opening up and people start partying on it gets out of hand. Seems Andrews was on a hiding to nothing no matter what he did according to certain sections of the media and state opposition, then sheep like you start believing it. You're right, people are very stupid, that's why the virus was always going to win.
