    That's it in a nutshell. The littoral interpreters of the law are in control. They will not make a precedent and attract criticism for being forward thinkers but rather they would hide behind a littoral interpretation of the law instead of interpreting the law in the spirit of which it was written.

    They place far too much significance of mitigating factors when sentencing. In Australia today you can kill someone by just walking up to them on the street, punching them and stepping on their neck, knowing full well the maximum penalty you will get is 4 - 8 years with a non parole period of something like 2 1/2 years. That's if they get jail at all.

    It sickens me to see the law get to the point where other more tightly written laws have to be created to deal out just penalties.
