Ok, point taken Disco. I accept the prison system is not perfect and that it has a dual mandate, punishment and rehabilitation. What most people are against on this thread is letting off the perp here lightly, claiming that steroid or alcohol use caused it.

Some people have no reasonable prospect of rehabilitation, in prison or outside. But should that mean that they should not be punished? In a sense punishment is a form of rehabilitation as it creates a disincentive for recidivism but it does not always work.
