don't courts already order medical/loss of work 'compo' to be paid to victims of 'minor' assault? how's that going? are they collecting it or not?
these orders are usually about $5/10,000 or so and no it's not a victim of crime gov't payout but an order made directly on the offender in addition to a fine,time already served assault guilty conviction.
I assume these are part of the sentence put on working/trust fund offenders,a sign of true contrition by the offender perhaps?
problem is in figuring "compo" for victims death? how much and who gets it?
There was a case in Toowoomba years ago where teenage vandals who burnt down a school or something had a compensation order put on them for I think 100's of 1000's of dollars. Magistrate/Judge whoever said that the offenders may win lotto or inherit sometime in their future and in the meantime pay it off monthly.
didn't see if this ever got appealed or whether these kids actually consistently made their monthly debt repay but the public applauded this court decision. They're pretty straight and religious in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs. They like gestures to wholesome Family life.Our way or No way. Okie from Miscogie types,disco stu.
