as of today i just googled it, not sure where the OP got his information from - the death rate (people that have contracted it vs dying) is at 1.40% (which is pretty good compared to other countries)
Australias population is 25,499,884
therefore we should expect to see 356,998 people dead, and that death rate will only go up as more and more people are infected and the hospitls arent able to cope
bit different when you talk about numbers compared to %'s.
