Storm water in new developments around me tends to go into mosquito-breeding, toddler- drowning ornamental landscapes with mini-lakes in the low lying areas. Probably better to have sports grounds over the top of concrete drains.
Who picks up the rubbish that accumulates in the surface vegetation? Certainly not the developer.
I live next to a river, where the Council has helpfully erected ugly signs to advise people that it is NOT an offlead Dog exercise zone, which is of course the default anyway. Unless it's explicitly permitted, it is not permitted.
Some years ago after a big flood the authorities spent big $ creating floodways so that water overflowing the river banks could traverse the municipality. Then they started planting trees in the floodways to decorate, which will exacerbate flood events by impeding flow.
We also see signs at beaches, prohibiting sleeping in cars and drinking alcohol. A blight, and they don't allocate resources to enforce these signs, but we all have to look at them.
