I have never heard of any tropical city in Qld being totally off-line after a cyclone. I was in Townsville for Althea and the hard hit suburbs lost power but the city generally had feeders from the north, south and west and power was gradually reconnected as each line or transformer was repaired.

Any state government that wilfully left itself with no redundancy in supply should be subject to criminal negligence charges.

The much maligned Premier Joh [shamefacedly I'll put my hand up] duplicated the north/south feeder with an inland 275 kV HV line because the existing coastal line was vulnerable to cyclones. He did this 45 years ago. AFAIK that coastal line has never been disrupted since, but we have our insurance policy.

Politically, this will not blow away quickly. Maybe a better topic for an RC than banking.
