The world I knew is fast disappearing.
When I was a little kid, Mum regularly brought home Rocky Road from Darrel Lea as a treat.
Then there was the famous Melbourne Coles Cafetaria - where relatives regularly took me for lunch on outings to the city. The cashier greeted us each time as if we were long lost friends. I can remeber queuing up and collecting along the way a tomatoe soup, steak and kidney pie with mash, carrots and peas and a traditional trifle or red jelly sponge cake for dessert.
It closed down in the early 1990s - I hadn't been there for years. I ran into that cashier, now elderly, in the mid 1990s in a Warrandyte cafe - and she again greeted me as a long lost friend!!
