I place mine right behind the rear vision mirror, and the power/gps/rear cam cords go up under the front runner carpet where it meets the windscreen. From there cords go to the rear, to the side of the windscreen for the GPS and then the power cord goes to the fuse box. All are tucked away, out of sight. I have a dash cam that works constantly whilst the vehicle is turned on and when it is turned off it is activated by a senser. If the senser is activated it films for a period of time before going back to sleep until the senser is activated again.
I guess it is your own piece of mind if you are involved in an accident, the you say they say goes out the window as you have filmed evidence of the situation. Obviously the dash cam can work in your favor and not in your favor if you stuffed up.
