The US Government never backed Al Qaida .But it did back the Mujahideen in its fight against the Soviets. AFTER the overthrow of the Soviets some of the Mujahideen, for their own self preservation, joined Al Qaida.

Please get your facts right and stop posting distortions. But you, of course, you may have simply made the mistake of confusing the Mujahideen with the Taliban.

But the I guess your mistake is not surprising, as there are any number of people who love to muddy the waters of the never ending war against the Western Democratic societies, by Islam infused fanatics.
