yeh, and if he had not, he would still be in Guantanamo. Like plea bargaining, if you dont admit it, you will suffer longer.
By the way, Al-Qaeda was a US name applied after 9/11. It never existed as a group before that. It was a name of a base in Afghanistan that the US paid and supported Bin Laden was associated with when the yanks were using him to fight the Russians.
This does not in any way diminish his rights, or our poor political representatives for not following the rule of law.
