David Hicks became a proxy for John Howard hating - the actual facts of his time with Al Qaeda etc. were, and still are of little relevance to the left. His position as a sufferer at the the hands of the "evil" US will be defended by all means and contortions.
Hence the ABC website is currently leading with the story: "Gitmo files on Australians 'not accurate'"
