Very interesting. I think you are right and they need to redefine who they are. For me that is the confusing thing. What is Myer? Without a true identity, they are nothing. Moving upmarket does provide that and they are better able to compete with high-end own stores than they are with, say, Zara or H&M.
My fear for the company is getting to that identity. It won't be cheap or easy.
