"Reserve canister" for e-cars in trial operation

A kind of power bank allows in most cases a trip to the next e-charging station.

If you stay with an electric vehicle "without juice", so far there is only one solution: towing. A short-term "refueling", as can be done with gasoline, diesel and hybrid engines using canisters, is not possible because the batteries offer much too little power for it and you can not just the discharged battery of the e-car against a full exchange - on the one hand because the force cells differ from vehicle to vehicle, on the other hand because the weight can be several hundred kilograms.

Powerbank as an alternative to the towing service

To remedy this, the ÖAMTC is currently evaluating a kind of power bank for e-cars. The "Mobile Electric Vehicle Charger", as the device is known in the jargon, consists of several lithium cells and can deliver electricity for about twelve kilometers to an electric vehicle. This takes about 15 minutes and in most cases allows a trip to the nearest charging station.

ÖAMTC Director Oliver Schmerold explains: "More and more members are traveling with e-cars, especially in the cities, and because the mobility club always keeps its finger on the pulse and tries out innovative concepts, we wanted to find an alternative to the previously necessary towing service. " Thanks to international roots and cooperation, a power bank was acquired by the Dutch partner club ANWB. Currently, the application possibilities are being evaluated - for the first time the new system was demonstrated at the E-Mobility Play Days in Spielberg.
