The EV hype re being environmentally friendly is an obvious fraud at this stage! I know nobody wants to hear it on this thread! It requires nearly all power being generated by solar or wind power (or nuclear???) to start to become acceptable. The numbers are quite simple: Increase the weight of a vehicle by 50%, replace 500 kg of components every eight years (or probably the whole car, as current EV tech will be out of date very quickly). Burn coal to power them. Even with solar/wind power, it is far better that the power is utilised as efficiently as possible, for the best environmental benefit. They are extremely environmentally unfriendly at this stage if you don't live in Norway. A massive positive though, is that they keep city air clean, (at the expense of more pollution at the site of generation, and initial resource production etc). A short range EV is far more environmentally friendly however, as the battery weight is far lower. But they are not really a useful car if they only cover 60-100 km or so.
Get a hybrid ICE car if you want to be as environmentally friendly as possible, if a bicycle will not do. Hopefully the fuel sources can be improved to utilise more ethanol over time, and this fuel can be produced in a sustainable fashion.
EVs are obviously still quite crap due to the recharging time, and side reactions in the batteries that are not high enough spec to last a decade. Buses that have a lower battery to weight ratio, as they can recharge often are a great idea.
However batteries will be going great guns as storage. People will be buying EVs as a misguided green status symbol, even though they will drown a lot more polar bears. Hence my investment. The China EV spike has gone, and the EV lanes are now full of wealthy Chinese Communist party members stuck in traffic just like everybody else. The market has hopefully more than factored that loss of Chinese demand into the SP. Briners on Atacama face a future risk. Perfect time to long hard rock Li miners.
