I think his point was if he starts with a thousand dollars and a thousand shares and ends up with $1600 worth of shares from trading them he has "averaged 60c per share"
Of his real money he has put in he has turned it into 60c of his money per dollar of share value he holds now.
I get what he means but it's not technically correct terminology, no.
But we don't need to argue with him about it.
"Good job trading your average cost per share down" and now I'll move on.
