The main issue with hydrogen is that it leaks out from tanks (very hard to contain air tight). When it leaks it cannot be smelt. It then is highly highly flammable and when it's burning, you can't even see it. When it explodes there is no flame. Sometimes it will explode just mixing with air.
It's bloody dangerous in an automotive environment. it is more likely to be used for very large industrial battery systems but not to be widely adopted in the mum and dad EV space. Stored in massive facilities away from crash risks and people. Lithium is where the industry has headed. Hard to reverse that now after all of the major car manufacturers announcements.
